This one features a Seattle based travel agent with psychic gifts helping a homicide detective with an investigation.
It’s a very charming read. I’ve heard there will be a sequel and I’m looking forward to reading that when it comes out.
Ancillary Mercy
A well written and enjoyable novel.
For all that it was a tiny bit of a disappointing end.
I was listening to the (excellent) audiobooks of this series and got so drawn in that that I needed the speed of reading it myself.
I highly recommend this series to anyone who likes science fiction. The first book in particular is of the highest calibre and the other two still very good.
The Truth of the Divine
This is the sequel to Axiom’s End.
It’s an even better book than the first but by god is this one bleak.
I’m interested to see where the series goes from here. I hope there’s some uplift at some point though.
The Last Graduate
El is no longer an outcast at the Scholomance school of magic.
She has an alliance and – even better – friends.
After the events of last year everyone is enjoying a breather from attacks by the Mals.
Everyone except El!
This is a very good second installment of this series. I really hope she sticks the landing in the last book.
The Elenium
I had an urge for a quick generic fantasy hit and this fits the bill.
I’ve reviewed this fantasy series before and pretty much everything I said then still holds true.
The Belgariad
This five volume series is an expertly and cynically constructed slice of epic fantasy.
Nearly every clichéd trope of the genre is trotted at one point or another but the sheer pace of storytelling stops it from becoming boring.
I’ve read this series many times but even after now I find myself enjoying some of the characters and rooting for the (inevitable) happy ending.
It’s outdated, generic as all hell but it’s one of my comfort reads.
If you’re looking for a quick, easy-to-read fantasy fix then this is an acceptable option.
A Deadly Education
El is an outcast at the Scholomance school of magic.
This would be bad enough in a normal boarding school but this magical school is full of monsters called Mals looking to snack on unprepared students and the outcasts are the easy marks.
Luckily El is no easy mark.
The Accidental Footballer
This is a pretty decent, if slight, memoir.
Given Nevin’s personality it is not surprising that it’s most fun when he’s talking about life outside of football.
When Sorrows Come
Toby and Tybalt are finally getting married.
Of course Toby would be pulled into events vital to continuing peace among the Fae in North America along the way.
Another excellent book in this incredible series.
A Killing Frost
Toby has to find her legal father (and former nemesis) before she can marry.
Some truly epic reveals in this excellent continuation of the best urban fantasy series of all time.
